irc.dal.net #icv

The "i" in "i code viruses" does not refer to any one particular person, it is simply a courageous statement like "no fear" or the "i read your e-mail" bumper sticker. The slogan "underground blasphemy" best describes the nature of this site. The internet gives us the power to be everywhere at once, create our own worlds/plagues, to be anybody or nobody, etc... It is very godlike, hence, blasphemy.

ICV was started and is maintained by tapeworm (from the contributors page).

We have a unique feature on our forums here at ICV that lets you vote for (give props) or against (flame) the quality of each topic or comment, much like digg.com. Our implementation of this "reputation system" can be thought more of like an online video game in that the more people that send you props, the more points you earn; and the more points you earn, the more privileges you get on the site.

As your point level increases you will automatically earn:
- 0-100: lol n00bz earn nothing!
- 1000+: captcha code disappears on forms
- 101-10000: voting seniority (your votes will grow stronger than less experienced users)
- 15000: the ability to make file attachments of limited size
- 25000: the ability to edit/delete posts and move threads to their appropriate categories
- 30000: the ability to ban troublesome users
- 50000: the ability to use HTML in your posts
- and more (as we think of them)...

So how do you earn points? Easy: Make intelligent, interesting posts and comments. If you're reading this then you're already off to a good start. How do you lose points? Also easy: Being a spamwhore, any attempt at cheating including registering multiple accounts (we do keep track of this stuff), asking stupid questions or making lame/redundant comments, abusing your privileges, etc. Ya know, common sense stuff. You can view your current point status in your personal profile.

Overall we believe that everyone should be rewarded for contributing to the community, therefore we don't limit "moderater" privileges to a select few but rather anyone & everyone that deserves them. It's all powered by the community as well; by voting, you decide who gets promoted and who doesn't. -This feature is subject to change at any given time.

As an added entertainment value for the site, we take miscellaneous projects or events that technology enthusiasts (such as ourselves) might find interesting, and document them for your viewing or listening pleasure. As these projects are done in our free time, we cannot guarantee updates on a regular basis, not to mention that we're more concerned with fun/quality content than we are with consistent content.

Our shows are provided in a variety of different media formats including video, audio (podcast), and/or whatever else we come up with. Currently the shows are split up into different segments...

  • video
    • pwn3d

These segments show what it means to truly be owned along with the assistance of our trusty prop, the big red PWN3D stamp. Whether proving stubborn people wrong, making fun of noobz, or just for the sheer heck of it, these segments are always fun.

    • hacking myths

In these segments we take user-submitted hacks, or hacks we have found on our own and attempt to see if they're really possible. For example, is it really possible to get free soda/food from a vending machine?

    • macgyverisms

Ah yes, what hacking show would be complete without nifty homemade gadgets and/or utilities using items from around the house or from the local store?

    • events

LAN parties, conferences, hamfests, you name it.

  • audio
    • radio virus

This is our "default" podcast where we discuss various underground topics, and/or whatever else is on our minds. We try to get as many people to participate in this show as we can. Anyone interested in joining us via VOIP software, just let us know.

  • user submitted
    • You are welcome to submit your own videos/podcasts and if we feel it fits the theme we're going for, we'll publish it. There aren't really any guidelines as to exactly what we're looking for, all we ask is that you remove all logos and refrain from using any copyrighted material (specifically music) without permission. Just send an e-mail w/ attachments to worm@icodeviruses.com
