IRC help

ok, no matter what i have tried, i cannot access an IRC, i cant connect. i get to one of them, and it says 'connecting to <insert site or channel>' and it says unable to connect, can anyone give me a set of iron clad instructions that will work just in case im too stupid to do it myself and thats why its not working? keep in mind, i cant get to mIRC, because my school blocked it. so far i can get to chatzilla. Thanks in advance.

It's possible that you can't use IRC from your school. It might be rejecting the connection. I'm not sure how you could test it, but if you can't connect I'd bet that this might be the problem. I use Chatzilla, and to connect to our server here type

code:
/server irc.abjects.net

into the little text area at the bottom. Then if it connects type
code:
/join icv

to join the channel. Of course, it's quiet during the day, so you probably won't find anybody in there anyway. Substitute the name and channel for whichever you want to connect to.

This is a good point as a lot of schools block the ports used by IRC. Here's a website that will allow you to use port 80 to chat on IRC. So if the above method doesn't work for you Phantom, this is another option for you.

Website: http://ircatwork.com/

It's pretty easy to use. In the nickname column insert the nick you want to use. In the server column insert the server you want to connect to (irc.abjects.net) and in the channel column the room you want to join (#ICV) then hit login in and wait.

so abjects doesnt like ircatwork, i suppose.

you could try a proxy with another irc client, and you should be able to change which ports it uses.

i think... lemme check.

ok, xchat allows you to set up a proxy and choose which port to use to connect to it.

you might try that, but i haven't tried it out so i dunno. hope it helps.
